1951年７月１５日、コネチカット州スタンフォード市で生まれました。両親の励ましのお陰で、年少時からいつかの違う楽器を習い、作曲もするようになりました。

 
学生時代にはいろいろなバンドを先導してきました。大学は、ボストンのバークリー音楽大学に通い作曲法を専攻しました。
I led various bands through grade school. I majored in music composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

 
1970年初めに、ジミー・ドーシー・オーケストラとジーン・ハル・バンドとともに旅をしました。フリーランサーとしてヨーロッパに旅たち、大半はフランスですごしました。
In the early 1970s, I traveled with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and Gene Hull's Band. Then, I left for Europe where I freelanced, mostly in France.
 
1978年、ＮＹで定住し、１３の異なる楽器からなるジャズオーケストラを結成しました。
In 1978, I settled in New York and formed my 13-piece Jazz Orchestra.
 
1978年から1980年の２年間で３つのアルバムを録音しました。これも、ヒル・ウッズ、ディック・オッツ、ロニー・キューバー、マイク・アビンのような優れたミュージシャンに恵まれたからです。
From 1978 to 1980 The Orchestra recorded 3 albums. I've been very fortunate to have wonderful musicians on my recordings; people such as Phil Woods, Dick Oatts, Ronnie Cuber and Mike Abene.

1981年４月、Jazz Times Magazine 社調査では、私のアルバム「Kef’s Pool」が、アメリカ・カナダ中のジャズラジオ局の上位１０に入りました。


In April 1981, a survey by Jazz Times Magazine found my album, "Kef's Pool" on the Top Ten of many jazz radio stations throughout the United States and Canada.


 
1982年、２・３週間の滞在のつもりで東京に行ったところ、すばらしい機会に恵まれ５年の滞在になってしまいました。
In 1982, I moved to Tokyo, Japan. I planned to stay for just a few weeks, but I had so many wonderful performing opportunities that I stayed for 5 years.
 
あるテレビ番組のゲストとなったり、ジャズ・フェスティバルのようないくつかの録音もしました。
I was a guest artist on television shows, and on several recordings as well as jazz festivals.


 
日本滞在中に、ジョージ・川口、The Sharps & Flats, 東京ユニオン、The New Breed 等のゲストとして招待されました。
During my stay in Japan, I was a guest performer with George Kawaguchi, The Sharps & Flats, Tokyo Union, The New Breed and many others.

自分のバンドを結成し、演奏者と通じあうことが出来る程度まで日本語を習いました。
I hurried to learn the language at least enough so I could form my own band and
 communicate to the musicians a little.
 
そして、全員が日本人のオーケストラを結成しました。
Then, I formed an all-Japanese orchestra.
 
東京の有名なピット・インで演奏し、エルビン・ジョンズ、デイブ・リーブマンを招きジャズコンサートをしました。
We performed at Tokyo's famous Pit Inn, and in concert with jazz greats such as Elvin Jones and Dave Liebman.

1987年にハワイに移住し、シンフォニーを作成し始めました。
In 1987, I moved to Hawaii and began composing for symphony orchestras.
 
1990年、マウイ・シンフォニー・オーケストラのゲストとして何回も出場しました。
In 1990, I appeared in a series of concerts with the Maui Symphony Orchestra as guest performer/conductor/composer.

1993年にＮＹに戻り、若いジャズ演奏者達と一緒に下稽古、演奏をするようになりました。


I came back to the New York area in 1993 and began rehearsing and performing with a jazz orchestra that was mostly comprised of young jazz artists.
 
1998年にジル・アレンと出会い、パートナーになりました。ＮＹジャズ・オーケストラを一緒に指揮しました。
In 1998, I met Dr. Jill Allen and we became music partners. We led the New York jazz orchestra together.
 
2005年にジルと私は結婚し、２００６年にフロリダに移りました。
In 2005, Jill & I married. We moved to Florida in 2006.

現在、２人または４人で演奏をしています。ジャズ６重唄曲の作曲をしています。
Currently, we perform as a duo and quartet. And, we're writing new music for a jazz sextet.
